Mike Kowall is the Senate Majority Floor Leader, charged with pushing through pro-jobs legislation in Lansing to help grow our economy in Southeast Michigan.  In his second term, Mike got involved in public service after a successful career as president of a family-owned business, Accurate Woodworking, Inc.

A champion of the auto industry, Mike authored SB 995, which expands autonomous vehicles, and SB 996, which creates standards for autonomous vehicles and national model legislation.  He was named MichAuto's 2014 Legislator of the Year and the Michigan Manufacturer's Association 2017 Legislator of the Year.

Mike’s efforts to help our economy have helped drive down unemployment in Michigan to its lowest rate in 18 years and create 500,000 jobs.  Whether it's tax reform, cuts in regulations, or investment incentives, Mike has lead the way to create more jobs for Michigan families.

A Michigan native, Mike grew up in Detroit and attended St. Mary of Redford Catholic School.  He graduated from Henry Ford High School in Detroit, and then attended Oakland Community College before serving a five-year carpenter apprenticeship.  He began his public service on the White Lake Township Planning Commission and then as a township supervisor.  He served in the State House of Representatives from 1999-2002.

Kowall is a Commemorative Partner with the United States Department of Defense and is responsible for just under 50 Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pinning Ceremonies throughout the state of Michigan since 2015.

Mike and his wife of 43 years, Eileen, live in White Lake.  They have two daughters, a son-in-law, and two grandkids. Mike is a member of Holy Spirit Church and is active in his community Michigan Council on Future Mobility, Multi-Lakes Conservation Association, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, and the chambers of commerce for Greater West Bloomfield Area, Huron Valley, Kensington Valley, Lakes Area, and Novi.
